[close] Welcome to 'Reading the 20th Century', a friendly and inclusive group that explores and discusses the literature, history, culture and music of the years between 1900 and 1999. This 100-year period saw extraordinary levels of change, including two global conflicts, new political ideologies, increased life expectancy, the end of empires and much more. The 20th Century witnessed more technological and scientific progress than all the other previous centuries combined, inspiring writers, historians and artists to try to make sense of it all. Each month we explore a ten year period within the century, or a movement or idea, or a key author, by nominating and voting on a work of fiction or non-fiction linked to the monthly theme. Aside from this group choice, there will also be an alternate read, nominated by one of our moderators. Group members are welcome to choose one, both, or indeed, neither of the monthly choices. Group members regularly arrange buddy reads too - so there is always plenty going on, and lots of discussions to enrich your reading experiences. Although we cover all aspects of the 20th Century, we are a UK-based group and our main emphasis tends towards the UK and Europe.

[close] The Lady Vaults is our term for the works of women authors from before now science fiction and fantasy history. Often overlooked and brushed aside, we're taking the time to delve into the lady vaults and find some exciting treasures! These are books from at least 15 years ago (2004 or earlier). Each month we read one book from The Lady Vaults and chat about it, learn about the author and their life and works in SFF. The Lady Vaults 100% includes all women, femmes, trans, non-binary and queer identities that care to identify themselves as female/femme in whatever way. [close] Officially 10k Members Strong & Climbing!! Building and supporting a community of self-published authors dedicated to both sharing experiences and learning as equals. Founded in January 2015, this groups was initially designed as a way for me to support indie authors by reading their work and featuring them on my website. Since then it has evolved into a valuable resource and support system for authors who have or would like to self-publish. With the help of some patient and efficient moderators, Riley Amos Westbrook, BB Wynter, VM Sawh, Christina McMullen, Dwayne Fry, GG Atcheson, Melissa Jensen, Ashley Capes, J. Daniel Layfield, & CB Archer, Support Indie Authors fights to help indie authors rise above the stigma that is self publishing, as well serves to provide a supportive environment for those who want to share experiences, ask for help, and simply find some friends with common goals.
